Victorian Boot Scraper
A large, round cast-iron boot scraper from the servants’ door in an English country house.
Boot scrapers are one of those fascinating pieces of historical street furniture that we still see every day. This one is a classic, simple shape - it was found at the servants’ entrance in a large country house, and the fancier designs would have been reserved for the front doors.
Heavy, but portable (many boot scrapers were fixed), this would be an excellent feature by a back door, as useful today as it was back in the 19th century. Particularly appropriate for households with gardeners and small, muddy children!
English, mid 19th century.
Size: height 22cm, circumference 44cm
