French Preserving Pot
A beautifully decorated preserving pot in wonderful condition. This is a piece of French social history as well as a fantastic planter! These round-bellied pots come from Beaume in France and were used to preserve food, usually meats and pates.
You can still see the small holes in the top where a muslin would have been secured with small sticks, to keep away flies. The pot would have been made on a wheel, with the pretty detail around the rim added later.
These days, it would look wonderful displaying flowers or foliage, or simply as a table centrepiece, perhaps in a garden room.
