Pair of 19th Century Greek Pithoi

Price is per individual item

This attractive pair of 19th century terracotta urns would have been used domestically to store and preserve wine, olive oil, vegetables, meat, honey and seed.

They would originally have had a lid and were made using a potter's wheel mainly on the Greek Islands of Rhodes, Chios and Sifnos. They were white washed to reflect the sun to help keep the contents cool.

These attractive urns look fantastic as decorative items both inside and in the garden and look particularly good when placed amongst mature planting.
