19th Century Italian Tree Planter
This huge 19th Century Tree Planter was found in a market in Florence.
It is an early example how steel reinforced concrete began to be used from about 1865 onwards as a cheaper alternative to composite and natural stone.
What is outstanding about his particular item is the high quality of the decorative casting featuring motifs, scrolls fruit and a shield. A small loss on the rim of the planter does detract at all from its overall attractiveness and originality.
This really is an exceptional piece in completely untouched condition in an original and attractive worn patina.
Italian Circa 1885.
