Green Confit Pots
A rare pair of French green confit pots used to preserve food in the 19th century.
“Confit” is French for “to preserve”, and these neat little pots were used for preserving food over the winter. The green and mustardy yellow coloured pots like these were used for meat (important to have a colour code when all the jars look similar on the outside!). The meat was put in the pots, sealed, and stored, usually in a cool larder but sometimes buried underground.
These days, they’d make sweet little planters or simply attractive decorative pots.
