Grand Jarre de Provence
We bought three of these huge planters from a brocante near Nice on our last visit to France. They are over 80 cm wide and 60cm deep and would easily incorporate a large shrub or a small tree. They are reproductions from Roman originals and are decorated accordingly with acanthus leaves, bows, scrolls, flowers and a rams head.
They were manufactured by a family business in Provence that traded from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of the second world war. We therefore conservatively estimate them to to have been made in and around 1920. Wear is consistent with age and use and they are generally in very good condition.
Price is per item but all three are currently available.
