Giant Stone Mortar
An exceptional large carved stone mortar, from the mid nineteenth century.
It's quite rare to find such a huge stone mortar, and we couldn't resist this one! We found it in the South of France, where it had no doubt been an essential item for generations. Its size suggests it was used for commercial purposes, possibly in a boulangerie or similar, as it's rather too large for your typical domestic kitchen!
It would make an excellent statement piece on any garden, either as a planter, or simply just as a decorative item.
France, circa 1850.
