Georgian Garden Cloche
A rare cast iron Georgian garden cloche in excellent condition.
This English cloche dates from the 1820s and has recently been reglazed. “Cloche” comes from the French meaning “bell”, as the first garden cloches were bell-shaped.
This attractive example has a hexagonal base and a circular top. Used in the 19th century to protect plants from the cold, cloches are rarely used commercially these days, but definitely have a place in the domestic garden.
This is a lovely cloche, and thanks to its recent reglazing, could still be used for its original purpose, to protect your plants from the winter weather.
English, circa 1820.
Size: height 56cm, depth 45cm, width 45cm
