Arras Plant Stand with Claw feet
A rare Arras plant stand with four curved tiers.
The term "Arras" refers to garden furniture produced in the eponymous French region between 1840 and 1920, from semi-hollow steel tubing known as "fer elegi". The clawed feet date the plant stand to post 1860 but pre-1900, when manufacturer Grassin Baledans moved onto a horse hoof foot design.
This elegant plant stand was probably made for a garden room or conservatory, and the good quality of the original green paint (called "Bullrush") suggests that it was kept indoors.
A lovely piece which would form the base for a fabulous plant display.
French, circa 1875.
