Arras Console Table

A beautiful and rare Arras console table.

It's very unusual to find such a long Arras table. We first saw it at seven in the morning, on the back of a lorry at a French antique market!

This model was included in the 1874 Grassin Baledans catalogue as "Table Carrees longues a 2 pieds pour cafes" which simply translates as "long rectangular table with two legs."; tuquioiseThis table would have originally been painted white, but over the years has been coated many times to leave a fantastic turquoise patina, with both white and orange showing through the worn paintwork.

The table is made from the Arras patented Fer Elegi (semi-circular hollow metal) frame, with decorative scrolls. It has the typical claw feet of 19th century Arras, and the maker's plaque is on the frame.

It's amazing what you can find on the back of a lorry...!

French, circa 1880.
