Small Greek Pithoi Urn
These 19th century terracotta urns would have been used domestically to store and preserve wine, olive oil, vegetables, meat, honey and seed.
They would originally have had a lid and were made using a potter's’ wheel mainly on the Greek Islands of Rhodes, Chios and Sifnos. They were white washed to reflect the sun to help keep the contents cool.
We have a number of these in stock and each one is a slightly different size and shape and has its own individual patina and markings making them all totally original.
These attractive urns look fantastic as decorative items both inside and in the garden.
