Arras Table Carree Longue
A rectangular Arras table with classic lion's foot design.
Arras garden furniture has become extremely collectable, so we're always pleased when we find an interesting piece like this one. This table was sold as "Table Carree Longue", a long square table. The charming lion's paw table feet identify it as earlier Arras, dating from between 1860 and 1900, when the horse hoof design took over. These attractive and witty feet actually had a practical purpose, preventing the table or chairs from sinking into the soil.
This particular Arras side table has a lovely, aged patina, and its rectangular shape makes it especially suitable for a balcony, smaller terrace hallway or conservatory.
French, mid-late 19th century.
